Turkey, Butternut Squash and Cilantro Dog Food

Cilantro is an amazing herb that has a great flavour and is super dog friendly. I know Finn scarfed this down. Finnegan also enjoys sitting amongst the herbs while I tend to the garden! Loved catching this pic!!

Cilantro is not something you see regularly in dog food but it is dog safe and it has antioxidants, vitamins C, A and K as well as folate, potassium, manganese, choline and beta-carotene.... the list goes on. Why wouldn't we add this to our dog food... and they (at least mine) loves the flavour.

I tend to boil or mildly saute all the meat in the dishes I serve my dog.... I use dog safe oils to saute and it adds necessary fats to the dish as well!

I will caveat that I encourage all people thinking of making homemade food for their dogs to check with their vets or do their own research... all dogs are different and so are their dietary needs! These recipes are a great foundation for you to responsibly experiment!

In this case I used 2 pounds of ground chicken and 1 pounds of chicken livers. I cooked both of these in a separate sauce pan.. because the livers need some additional cutting the ground chicken does not. It is so important to not only feed your dog muscle meat and incorporate organ meat as well as that is where all the nutrients lie. I also bought pre-cubed butternut squash and boiled these!

This is kind of going to be a short post... mostly because this dish was so easy... which is what you want for dog food!

I took the two types of chicken meat and placed them in a bowl. From there I added some chopped cilantro from my garden in... and mixed well. By then the squash was ready and very soft, so it was easy to mash and incorporate into the mix.

This was a hit for Finnegan and I hope your furry family members love it as well!
